Alaskan Wilderness or Heart of London? Ministries Needing Partners

By January 4, 2018September 28th, 2022Blog

January and you haven’t planned your summer mission trip yet? That’s OK! We have some great ministries we still need partners for.

Here are two ministries in Alaska and one in England that we love —please join us in praying for them and go serve there if God calls you to it. When registering please put the ministry you’d like to partner with in the promo code box.

Soldotna Church of God

Pastor Alan Humphries

Soldotna Church of God is a Bible-Based, evangelistic, Spirit-empowered church in Soldotna, Alaska right by the Kenai Peninsula, home of the largest salmon run in the country. The church also runs a Christian based retreat center called Alaska Christian Retreat.

Their mission is to “change our world one life at a time” through a full commitment to God’s word, to service, and to prayer. Pastors Alan and Miriam Humphries stated purpose is to communicate to the people of the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska and the world the life-changing power of Jesus Christ in a practical and understanding way. They want to develop responsible, productive, successful Christians, equipped for ministry in the church and life mission in the world in order to magnify His name.

Ministries they would like help with:

Soldotna Church of God

  • Vacation Bible School
  • Bible & Destiny Conferences (3rd Week of July)
  • Evangelizing to the community
  • Artistic Camp
  • Christmas in AK (festival in December)
  • Various work projects around the facilities

TEAM needed: “People who are pumped up and ready to serve the community of Soldotna. A team that can run a VBS and evangelize during that time. Help with running the retreat center and church is needed as well. Cleaning up the grounds and work projects as Pastor Alan needs.“

REFUGE for Women

REFUGE for Women exists to assist women who have lost their children or been involved in domestic violence to recover and

Children from the refuge.

begin life anew. This is accomplished through Christian teachings, Bible studies, and classes to instruct women in learning who God created them to be. REFUGE is an organization that has healing for families at its heart.

Dana Hoffman, the ministry leader, is a true “sourdough” – she’s lived in Alaska since before it was a state. Her heart is to come alongside the broken and hurting and lead them to restoration. It is our great honor to partner with her in this work.

Ministries they would like help with:

Day camp. Taking at-risk children to explore nature (think mountain hikes, yak farms, horseback riding, and fishing) and teaching them firsthand about God’s great love for them. VBS lite style content in a very fun outdoor schema.

TEAM needed: A youth or adult team would work well. A team with a passion for bringing restoration and healing to kids.

Women’s conference. This will be a small conference focused on finding identity and healing in Christ and specific prayer for attenders. We were able to put together a worship team last year to play for the conference – a worship leader would be great.

TEAM needed: People who can teach the word and give their own testimonies. A worship leader. Other people who can help meet the logistical needs of the conference: sound, setting up rooms, helping with food, etc.

Saint Augustine

Highbury St. Augustine

St. Augustine is a small, welcoming, and diverse church near the heart of London. They have a beautiful building and are using it well through all their outreach and discipleship programs. With a true passion for people the congregation is committed to sharing Jesus with their community and is ready to have a team come serve alongside them.

The congregation and staff at St. Augustine put their heart for social justice in action through the different ministries they provide.

Inside St. Augustine

Ministries they would like help with:

  •         Discipleship studies
  •         Children’s ministry
  •         Youth ministry
  •         Ministry to the elderly
  •         Homeless ministry
  •         Refugee/migrant ministry

The team that partners with St. Augustine needs to be ready to dive into ministry with compassion. Be ready to ask questions, listen, and share your life story.

With so many important ministry opportunities the need for volunteers is great. Your team could be the team that comes in and helps to encourage, re-energize, and provide a catalyst for growth to our brothers and sisters. We need you to say yes! Step out in faith and bring a team to partner with St. Augustine.

Do you have other ministry passions and ideas? We have plenty of churches waiting for a partnership. Give us a call, we’d love to learn about your heart for ministry so we can find the right church partner for you!

I would like to help with the Alaska ministry. Two years ago I went on a Thrist mission trip to Belize. I am 76 years of age and I am in good health. I am physically able to help on the missions trip. I am not able to lift or run. I can walk 2-3 miles in a day.

If you would consider my serving on a Thrist trip, let me know. I would like to know the cost of both trips. Thank you.

Let us know more about London. When? What denomination is St. Augustine? Anglican? I’m curios. Thanks.
