What We’re Excited for In Belize This Summer

By Ashley Binneboese, Director of England Operations, Director of Administration

Summer is our busy time in Belize. Over the years my love and appreciation for our teams from the US has continued to grow. They choose to take time out of their summer to serve alongside their brothers and sisters in the beautiful country that is Belize. Many teams choose to sleep on the floor and forgo the convenience of air conditioning because they are so excited to spend each waking minute sharing Christ in the towns and villages.

Church Partners

Many of our Belizean church partners are long-term partners of Thirst Missions. We are continually learning from the Belizean pastors and church members as they work day after day to share the love of Christ in their communities. Our church partners represent a range of denominations, some of them serve in small, remote villages and others in larger towns. Though the ministries may look different all of our church partners have committed to focus on sharing the gospel and on their communities. We are thankful for the privilege of serving alongside them.

Ministries

Each mission trip is unique! The members of each mission team come to Belize with different passions, talents, and gifts. Each village and town in Belize has its own culture and flavor, the churches we partner with are great at knowing the needs in their communities. All of these details come together to give us a lot of ministry options for the summer. Some of the ministry opportunities will include: VBS, construction projects, discipleship, outreach events, prayer, church ministry, medical ministry, and even some school ministry!

The outreach events have really taken on a life of their own. As returning teams have had a chance to build deeper relationships with their partner church both team members and church members have become more invested and excited to share ideas. This has resulted in some fun ideas for outreach  nights! One common theme has been focusing on the whole family. Together we are praying and hoping to provide a space for families to come together and enjoy one another.

Recreation

Belize is beautiful – the people warm and inviting and the country has some amazing history and stunning creation to share! We want our team members to be able to see and appreciate every aspect of Belize.

Mid-week our teams will have the opportunity to visit a Mayan ruin or go cave-tubing. They will get to see surprising wildlife, lush vegetation, and learn about the Mayan culture from some fun tour guides!

To close out the week most of our teams debrief on the wonderful , small island of Caye Caulker. Here they can decompress, prepare for re-entry, and enjoy some snorkeling on the second longest barrier reef. It is a treat to see all the different fish that God created!

Please keep our summer 2017 trips in prayer as we go through final details of preparation and hosting the teams for ministry.

And if you’re interested in exploring missions in Belize for the summer of 2018, please get in touch! We’d love to connect with you.
