Prayer and Politics

By November 4, 2015Blog

Writing today from a weird place. The place where I often keep hidden. That place is called politics. It is something that I typically avoid with the greatest force and a subject that often causes me the greatest angst. I mention this because God has placed it on my heart about the country and the election for the people of Belize. Today is their election day and similar to the United States they have nominations and then the people run within their party to be elected into office. However, what is different is that their running for the election is shorter between nomination and time for the people to vote. Many times it is plagued with disseat and dishonesty.

As I focus on Belize today, I sit and I pray for their leaders, both those current and those coming into power after today. I pray for the stewardship of both the people and the resources that this beautiful country has to offer. I pray for the knowledge and wisdom given to those elected to lead not only with a just hand but with a hand of grace and compassion. As things change and the new election will create tensions with parties, I pray for a hedge of unification between the parties and the Belizeans.

This country is God’s country just like every country all around the world. This country is full of people that are wishing to follow Him and do what is right by His word and standard all while obeying authority. However, with one side of the coin there is also another. I pray for those who are lost, lost amongst the chaos of the politics who get lost in the cracks of the system. I pray in particular for those who are lost and apart from God especially during this time and pray their hope can be found in Him. That through ones in their community and their areas they can be shown love and redemption.

It is because of this grace, I pray for the teams that travel with us to impact this area. To each person that reaches the one, you are playing a monumental role in the plans of God and for that we are so thankful. You are impacting the country, to be a country who knows and wants to know Jesus. Through your missions, your ministry, but most importantly your prayers, you are uniting a people.

May our minds be focused on prayer as our elections in the United States rolls around as well. May we be well versed in the issues but not stuck in the minutia, remembering that God works in, above and through all things for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose.

Many thoughts and prayers,

Elizabeth Barnard.
