It started with a knock at the door.
A small group of mission trip participants stood outside a family’s home. They were there to visit, listen, encourage and pray.
At first, nobody quite knew what to say.
They came from different places. Their lives , their homes, and their experiences were different.
But they sat down together.
They talked, they listened to the family’s story, and they laughed.
And before leaving, they asked a simple question:
“How can we pray for you?”
People who had been strangers only a short time earlier were praying together.
And walking away from that home, something had changed.
The mission team had arrived thinking about what they could give.
They discovered how much they could receive through a relationship, a conversation, a prayer and a glimpse into someone else’s life.
That’s the story we see happen again and again on mission trips.
A student who was nervous to pray out loud discovers courage.
A teenager encounters poverty and begins looking differently at everything they have.
An adult who came primarily to help discovers that God had something to teach them, too.
And a group comes home closer to one another—and closer to Christ—than when they left.
After nearly two decades of mission trips, we still believe deeply in what God can do when people step outside the familiar and say:
“Here I am. Use me.”
