Mission trips are a great way to serve others and make a positive impact on the world. They can be incredibly rewarding experiences, but they also require a lot of preparation. In this article, we provide some tips to help you prepare for your Mission Trip.

  1. Research the Location and Culture

Before going on a mission trip, it is important to research the location and culture of the destination. This includes learning about the customs, language, and religion of the people you will be working with. This will help you better understand the needs of the community and how you can best serve them. Read through the information provided on our website. We have provided a range of important information on each location’s page (Alaska, Appalachia, Belize, and Puerto Rico) to get started. Make sure you read through your participant manual as well, which you will receive after registering for your mission trip and before your trip starts.

  1. Get to Know Your Team

Mission trips require unity and teamwork to be as effective as possible, so it is important to get to know your fellow team members. This can include attending team meetings, participating in team-building activities, and learning about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This will help you work together more effectively while on the mission trip.

  1. Prepare for your Mission Trip Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually

Mission trips can be demanding, so it is important to prepare for your Mission Trip. This can include getting in shape, practicing self-care, hydrating well, and getting lots of sleep the week before your trip. Be intentional about taking care of yourself physically. Also, spend time every day reading your Bible and praying for the trip. Pick something specific to pray for each day of the week and set an alarm on your phone to remind yourself to stop and pray DAILY.

For example:

Sunday = pray for the church you will be partnering with

Monday = pray for safety

Tuesday = pray for your team

Wednesday = pray for the people you will meet on the trip

Etc…

  1. Fundraise

Mission trips often require fundraising to cover the cost of the trip. It is important to start fundraising early and to share as far and wide as you can about your mission trip. You will be amazed at how God will provide. Get creative with Fundraising methods.

  1. Pack Appropriately to prepare for your Mission Trip

Finally, it is important to pack appropriately for the mission trip. This includes bringing necessary items such as toiletries, clothing, and any necessary equipment for the work you will be doing. It is also important to pack with cultural sensitivity in mind, so be sure to research any clothing or cultural norms that should be respected. When you are taking a Mission Trip with Thirst Missions we provide you with a Packing Guide for each location.

If you are interested in going on a mission trip, we encourage you to sign up for an upcoming trip. Mission trips can be life-changing experiences, and we believe that everyone has something to contribute. Contact us to learn more about opportunities in Alaska, Appalachia, Belize, and Puerto Rico.
